Weekend Getaway

Last weekend, Dylan and I enjoyed our first baby free trip together since Brooks was born!  Originally, I had planned on a little beach excursion but since Brooks had few bouts of the tummy virus weeks prior, we didn't have too much extra time to take off work.  Then, when Paul McCartney's Atlanta concert date got rescheduled {boo!}, we finally decided that Dahlonega would be our destination!  Super close to home but just far enough to still feel like a mini-vaca.  We'd been a few times before and it never disappointed!

My parents kept Brooks and they all had a blast together while Dylan and I enjoyed some much needed togetherness and R&R!  Super important for married couples with young kids. We work hard, after all!  Mommies,{especially this one} sometimes need to be reminded that it's absolutely a-okay to relax a little too. ; )

Here are some pics from our rendezvous in this quaint little town! It truly is a fun, romantic spot!

Here we are at Frogtown Cellars.  This one was new to us and we LOVED it!!
Such pretty views and I was totally taken with the lavish hardwood floors,
dark cherry wood tasting bar and all the beautiful stonework on the walls.
The tasting was delicious, of course, and filled with bright and crisp whites
to the more complex, robust red variations {my fave}.

Back patio with beautiful views!  So peaceful!

This is the front of our hotel, the charming Dahlonega Square Hotel. We chose the
McGuire Suite because it had a private entrance and separate living room.  It was so adorable!

Pretty blue walls and crisp white bedding!

Sitting Room in our suite

Cute little adjoining bath

Rocking chairs out front!

Our first dinner out was at Corkscrew Cafe.
We sat on the outside covered patio in back and enjoyed a lovely
meal along with some live tunes from a local musician!

I highly recommend the filet!! Delish!!
Here is a link to their dinner menu
The chocolate creme brulee was amazing!!
The bread was served with a scrumptious pesto butter!  Mmmm!

The next day we did some light shopping in the square at the General Store

Dylan checked out some vinyls, of course!

5 cent "Honor System" coffee!  Only in Dahlonega! ; )
Basket heaven!!
Before we left, we had a really great breakfast at Picnic Cafe and Dessertary.
I had the Quiche Plate and wowza it was tasty!  Check out their website here

Hope you all get to visit Dahlonega soon!

Weekend Update

We had a lovely, relaxing weekend at home and I wanted to share a few fun pics.  Simple to most, no doubt...but monumental to us...Brooks had his very first little dip in the pool!  At 8 months old, his first pool excursion was quite an event for this mama and daddy!! Oh. Em. Gee. It was the cutest thing that I've ever seen!  His little face lit up and he splashed his hands in the water and laughed and laughed.  I am so thankful that our neighborhood has such a fantastic, kid friendly pool. Good to know those HOA fees go to something good. Can I getta amen?!?

Here are some pics of sweet baby Brooks and some other shots of our much needed "staycation" at home. : )  We are usually on the go or working on some type of project.  This weekend, however, we enjoyed quite the departure from that.  Some much needed R&R!!

Getting ready to head to the pool in our sun hat and swimming gear!

First time in!  A little chilly compared to bath water!

You know, just chillin in the shade with some toys.

When we put our little Tooks {our pet name for Brooks} to bed, mama and daddy enjoyed some
quality time talking and rocking in these two chairs!  We've even managed to keep our plants alive somehow! It's been
two whole weeks and I'm amazed! Me=plant killer. Eeeek. Hopefully, they will continue to flourish!

Got in some much needed playtime with our other "baby" Abbey

Dylan grilled some yummy porkchops on Saturday night!
Yes, that is the teeny tiniest baked potato in the whole wide world!  I'm trying to cut
back a little so as not to embarrass myself at the pool the rest of the summer. Ha!

I altered the recipe for the apple poppy seed coleslaw I made last weekend a bit and the taste speaks
to me better than the original...although it is quite good in it's own right...I just need more sweet and less sour! So, I added
2 tbsp of honey from our local farmer's market. Original coleslaw recipe found: here

Random. But I had to share!! I'm really digging these little sandals from Dress Up Boutique
I got them last year on clearance for $7 and never wore them because my feet were not the same
size during pregnancy. So weird.  I am loving them now though! I wore them the whole weekend.
They have really cute, super cheap shoes!

Weekend tablescape so our "staycation" dinners felt like restaurant dinners!

Fun playtime early Sunday morning with this little munchkin!
Brooks's little bed head=perfection to this mama!

Stock the Bar...B.Que Party

We had tons of fun this past weekend celebrating two very dear friends, Nick and Kim's upcoming nuptials!  We hosted a party for them along with our friends, The Neal's, and had a truly fantastic time! Here are some photos of our fun Stock the Bar....B.Que themed party.  Can't wait for their wedding!!

Adorable monogrammed custom cookies from Crazy Cakes

BBQ sliders from Jim and Nick's

Food table: BBQ, dijon potato salad, apple poppyseed coleslaw, baked beans, chips and dips!

I made the food signage out of card stock and wine corks with a little raffia tied around them.

Arnold Palmer's (lemonade mixed with sweet tea).
I made the garland out of colorful fabric samples I had and some strips of jute fabric.

I set mason jars on a tray behind the Arnold Palmer dispenser along with some lemon wheels and cute straws.

Outside drink table for the grown ups : )
I made the tassels from the ever popular tissue paper tutorial floating around!

Nick's dad shipped some red wine for the party!  This represents where Nick grew up! How cool.
We used wine corks in the flower vases.

In turn, we had white Georgia wine from local Ga wineries representing the Bride-to-be's state too!

The super fun shoe game! A great game facilitated by The Neal's.

Me, the Bride-to-be, Caitlin and my child, Mr. Brooks, over there grabbing at the picture frame ; )
We had pictures of the bride and groom as well as song lyrics framed that went along with the party's theme.

I used an old window for the front door signage.

We set up a large antique frame hanging down from the back porch as our "photo booth" for Instagram pics!

My old trunk housed the photo booth props and the sign was a "pin-spiration!"
I just adore pinterest, don't you?!?

Fun friends!

Are these two adorable or what?!? Future Bride and Groom!

Inside, we had a space for guests to write a "message in a bottle" for the soon to be newlyweds.
